Tianjin Budōkan – 天津市武德殿

Tianjin Wudedian
Tianjin Wudedian (天津市武德殿) is located at the conjunction of Nanjing Road and Anshan Road in Heping District. It was a ‘Budōkan’ built in 1941. The building was designed according to Japanese court architecture. The area where Budōkan sits was once occupied by the Japanese army. The building’s primary purpose was for Japanese martial arts.
After Japan surrendered in 1945, the U.S. military has been stationed in. In the 50′s, it was used as a nurse school, later became a Kindergarten. Now it serves the purpose of medical school library of Tianjin General Hospital.
I was born and bred in Tianjin, China. I have spent recent few years out of China. People living overseas long enough know: you can never go back home. Tianjin changed so much during the last few years, every time I go back home, it makes me few like a traveler. I set up this blog to tell stories about my beautiful hometown. It's history, architecture, culture and people.
